SATURDAY 13TH AUGUST
The Woodland Sessions Classical presents a very special intimate show with Russell Watson, making his Isle Of Wight debut on the evening of Saturday August 13th
Our strapline “Exceptional talent in an exceptional setting” was written for nights like this. Quite simply Russell Watson is one of the world’s greatest classical singers and the UK’s biggest selling classical artist.
Described by the New York Times as a performer “who sings like Pavarotti and entertains like Sinatra” Russell has released ten studio albums, each one receiving more critical acclaim than the last.
Russell’s career has spanned fifteen years and seen him perform for some of the world’s most notable figures including The Queen, the late Pope John Paul II who requested a private audience with Russell at the Vatican, former US presidents Bill Clinton and George W Bush, the Emperor of Japan, various European Prime Ministers and the King of Malaysia.
His performance at the opening ceremony of the Commonwealth Games in 2002 was watched by a worldwide audience of over one billion!
Russell’s versatility has led to collaborations with Meatloaf, Lionel Richie, Paul McCartney, Lulu, Alexandra Burke, Sean Ryder and the late great Luciano Pavarotti and parts in stage shows including Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds and coming soon, Chicago.
Our support act for the evening is Isle of Wight Tenor Jack Roberts. Rising star Jack has a voice described as ‘crystal clear’ and ‘exceptional’. This young tenor is fresh out of The Guildhall School of Music and Drama and rapidly building a portfolio of performing experience in professional opera and operetta.
At college he won the Joyce Budd Second Prize in the Kathleen Ferrier Bursary for Young Singers and went on to graduate with a 1st Class Honours in classical voice.
