Displays: 11.30am & 2.45pm
Come & meet Charlie, our new resident falconer… bringing a brand new, exciting falconry experience to the park!
Displays will include visitor interactions with the birds, including big owls & Harris hawks flying over audiences. Between shows, our teams will be roaming the park with birds of pray for customers to meet within the park.
Charlie is the youngest qualified falconer on the Isle of Wight, yet has a wealth of experience and a huge passion for the birds he looks after. Charlie will be joined by Luke who joined Charlie at Spirit of the Orient in February this year. Charlie and his team are a friendly group who are keen to answer all sorts of questions about the birds.
“I started falconry when I was 11, and started as an apprentice at the age of 15 and qualified at just 17 and recently set up South Coast Falconry. I got my first bird, Alfie (a Harris Hawk) at the age of 12 and still have him to this day. He is going to be displaying at Robin Hill this season”
There are five Harris Hawks, Alfie, Bonnie, Baldrick and Tiny, a Kestrel called Flick, two Eurasian eagle owls, Spike and Shadow, an Indian Eagle Owl called Chester, an African Spotted Eagle Owl called sprocket, a Mexican stripped owl called Rolo, a barn owl called Oli, an Asian Brown wood owl called Gandalf, three falcons, a hybrid falcon, called Saxon, a Turkey Vulture called Bernard as well as Tricks who is a southern White Faced Owl… these are just some of the birds that can be seen across the displays this summer.
These intimate and exciting owl displays take place in our woodland amphitheatre, just opposite the squirrel tower at 1.15pm every day.
